The European Union will train an extra 12,000 Ukrainian service members by February 2025. This brings the total number of troops trained under EUMAM to 75,000.

European Union chief Kaja Kallas made this announcement on Monday. The training is part of the Military Assistance Mission in support of Ukraine (EUMAM Ukraine). This was set up in 2022 and has a two-year mandate.

Soldiers from different age groups go through six-week courses at a facility, learning about trench and urban warfare. The goal was to train 60,000 Ukrainian troops by the end of 2024. As of November, around 63,000 soldiers had completed training in EU countries under EUMAM.

In December, the EU gave Ukraine 4.2 billion euros ($4.4 billion) in support. Starting from January, the EU will provide Ukraine with 1.5 billion euros ($1.6 billion) each month, according to Kallas.
