New Envoy to Visit Ukraine and Europe, Not Russia
The US president-elect Donald Trump’s special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, retired Lieutenant-General Keith Kellogg, will visit several European capitals in January 2025. This trip is part of the new administration’s efforts to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Kellogg will meet with senior leaders in Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital, and his team is also planning meetings with leaders in Rome, Paris, and other European cities. The itinerary does not include a visit to Moscow.
This diplomatic initiative comes soon after Trump’s inauguration and shows how urgently he wants to address the war. However, it’s worth noting that the planned trip focuses on “fact-finding” rather than active negotiations.
Trump has promised to end the war within 24 hours of taking office, but many experts have expressed doubts about this goal. They point out that Russian President Vladimir Putin may not be willing to negotiate with Ukraine on terms acceptable to Kyiv.
The exact dates and details of Kellogg’s trip are still being finalized.
