Polish Prime Minister Meets Ukrainian President
On December 17, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk visited Lviv and met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This meeting was not announced in advance.
During their discussion, Tusk stressed that Western leaders should stop talking about Ukraine’s possible defeat. He said this talk is “not based on facts”. PAP reported his comments.
Ukraine has been fighting a full-scale war with Russia for nearly three years. Russian forces have tried many times to take control of certain areas in eastern Ukraine and push Ukrainians back from nearby Russian land. It seems that Russia wants to achieve these goals before the US President-elect takes office on January 20.
US President-elect Donald Trump has promised to quickly end the war, but hasn’t given details about how he plans to do this. His team has suggested that Ukraine might need to give up some of its land in order to stop the fighting and get support from the US.
The two leaders discussed several topics during their meeting, including the current situation on the battlefield, diplomatic efforts, and working together with other partners. The Ukrainian President said:
“What we all need is not just a temporary pause in fighting, but a strong shared position among our partners.”
