**Ukraine‘s Parliament Passes Bill on Dual Citizenship**
The Ukrainian parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, has passed a bill that will allow Ukrainians to have dual citizenship. This is important for people who were born in Ukraine but now live elsewhere.
**What Does the Bill Say?**
The bill was first suggested by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in August. It says that Ukrainians can have multiple citizenships in certain cases, such as:
* When a child gets dual citizenship at birth
* When a Ukrainian child is adopted by a foreign citizen
* When an adult Ukrainian citizen marries a foreign citizen and gets automatic second citizenship
* When a Ukrainian citizen automatically gets foreign citizenship due to another country’s laws
**Who Won’t Be Allowed Dual Citizenship?**
The bill says that Ukrainians won’t be allowed dual citizenship if they are Russian citizens or from countries that don’t recognize Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
**What Does This Mean?**
This means that people who were born in Ukraine but now live elsewhere can keep their Ukrainian citizenship and also have citizenship of another country. The government hopes this will help people return to Ukraine after the war and still be able to travel with multiple passports.
