Russian Forces Advance in Ukraine Despite Tank Losses
Russia’s armored vehicle reserves are running low. Satellite images show that many tanks and other vehicles have been taken from storage facilities since February 2022.
According to the UK Ministry of Defense, Russia has lost over 3,600 main battle tanks and nearly 8,000 armored vehicles since the start of the invasion. This shows how much damage Ukraine’s military has done to Russia’s forces.
Russia is now relying on old Soviet-era equipment that is not well maintained. These vehicles are being taken out of storage, repaired if possible, and sent to the front lines.
Russian Forces Near Pokrovsk
Despite losing many tanks and soldiers, Russian forces have made gains near a key city called Pokrovsk in Ukraine. They have advanced to the southern outskirts of the city and taken control of a nearby village.
The UK Ministry of Defense says that Russia will likely continue to make gains towards Pokrovsk while also pushing westwards from the south of the town.
Russian forces have also blocked one of Ukraine’s main supply routes, making it harder for Ukraine to get food and other supplies to its soldiers. However, Ukraine has managed to hold onto another route to a nearby village called Velyka Novsilka.
