Georgia’s President, Salome Zurabishvili, spoke to the European Parliament about her country’s situation.
She said that Georgia is moving faster towards Russia after the elections. She also stated that everything in the country is controlled by one party and one person.
Zurabishvili criticized the Prime Minister for stopping negotiations with the European Union without a proper mandate. She said that this decision goes against the Constitution, which requires all institutions to support Georgia’s integration into Europe.
The President also mentioned the challenges faced by opposition media outlets and non-governmental organizations. She noted that many of these groups are facing financial problems or being threatened.
Zurabishvili herself has been a target of criticism, with two attempts to impeach her. In a week’s time, she will no longer have a personal guard for security reasons.
