**Public Broadcaster Fails to Broadcast President’s Address**
The President’s Administration has complained that the Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) did not show live coverage of President Salome Zurabishvili‘s speech to the European Parliament. This is not the first time GPB has been accused of not giving a fair view of things.
According to Article 16 of the law, GPB should promote Georgia’s integration into the EU and be balanced in its reporting. However, many people think GPB favors the ruling party, Georgian Dream, and doesn’t give enough airtime to opposition views.
The channel is funded by the government and has a big budget of GEL 110.3 million for next year. In recent weeks, protesters have been demonstrating outside GPB’s building, demanding more airtime and changes in leadership. Some airtime has been given to activists, but no changes have been made so far.
**The Problem with GPB**
GPB is accused of being biased towards Georgian Dream. The channel’s board chair, Vasil Maglaperidze, used to be a deputy chair of the ruling party. In the past, several journalists have complained about censorship on GPB. This has led to public protests and demands for change.
The President’s Administration says GPB is not doing its job properly and should give a fair view of things. The administration wants GPB to show live coverage of important events, like the President’s speech to the European Parliament.
