**Germany to Increase Military Size**
Germany is planning to increase the size of its armed forces. Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said this on December 18th.
Currently, Germany’s military has around 180,000 personnel in uniform. The target number is 203,000. But Germany may now aim for 230,000 soldiers.
This change comes at a time when NATO is getting ready to boost its strength after Russia invaded Ukraine two years ago. Europe‘s largest economy and key NATO member Germany wants to show it can defend itself and its allies.
Germany’s military has been struggling to recruit people. It is short of around 20,000 soldiers compared to the current target. The planned increase could be a step towards making up for this shortage.
The move shows that Germany is no longer holding back on defense spending. This change in policy could affect how Germany handles its budget and political stability at home.
