**Two Ukrainian Docs Make Oscar Shortlists**
Ukrainian cinema is making waves again. Two documentary films from Ukraine have been shortlisted for the 95th Academy Awards.
This comes after last year’s big win. The film “20 Days in Mariupol” won Best Documentary Feature at the Oscars. It was also the first Ukrainian film to get a gold statuette.
**Two New Docs Get Recognized**
The two new films are “Porcelain War” and “Once Upon a Time in Ukraine”. They were shortlisted in the documentary feature and short film categories, respectively.
“Porcelain War” is about the current war in Ukraine. It was directed by Brendan Bellomo and Slava Leontyev. It competed with 169 other documentaries and made it to the next round of voting.
“Once Upon a Time in Ukraine” is a US-Ukrainian co-production. It was directed by Betsy West and Earl Mac. It’s been shortlisted for the documentary short film category.
**Other Ukrainian Films Also Recognized**
Three Ukrainian films were initially longlisted: “La Palissade”, “Porcelain War”, and “Peaceful People”. However, only two of them made it to the final shortlist.
“La Palissade” by Pylyp Sotnychenko did not make it. But the other two will be waiting anxiously for the final verdict at the 96th Academy Awards ceremony on March 3rd in Los Angeles.
