**US and Germany Agree on Peace Talks for Ukraine**
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and US President-elect Donald Trump talked on the phone on December 19. They discussed the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Trump wants to end the war between Russia and Ukraine. He thinks this could help Russia, and he may cut US aid to Ukraine. The EU should take the lead in helping Ukraine, he said. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that guarantees from the EU alone are not enough. He wants NATO, especially the US, to provide real support.
The German government reported that both Scholz and Trump agreed that the war with Russia has lasted too long. They want a fair peace as soon as possible. Scholz reaffirmed his support for Ukraine’s defense against Russian aggression.
