**Russia Conducts Cyberattack on Ukraine’s Government Services**
On December 19, Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Olha Stefanishyna, announced that Russia had conducted a cyberattack on the country’s government services.
The attack targeted several important government services, including state registers overseen by the Justice Ministry. This is not the first time Russia has targeted Ukrainian companies and government institutions with cyberattacks since its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
**Previous Cyberattacks**
In August, a massive Russian cyberattack targeted Monobank, one of Ukraine’s largest banks. The country has been subjected to regular cyberattacks from Russia, which are part of the country’s hybrid war against the West over its support for Ukraine.
**Response and Impact**
Stefanishyna said that work is being done to counter the attack and restore affected systems. However, it may take up to two weeks for the government services to resume operation. She also warned that Russia is trying to use this situation to sow panic among Ukrainian citizens and abroad.
The international community has been warned about Russian hackers targeting U.S. government officials in October by Microsoft. Cyberattacks and phishing emails are a part of Russia’s hybrid war against the West.
