EU Leaders Must Act on Demands from Georgia and Moldova
The people of Georgia and Moldova want to join Europe, said European Parliament President Roberta Metsola. She spoke in Brussels about a meeting with EU leaders.
Metsola said that Russia is trying to destabilize these countries and the Western Balkans. The EU must respond strongly to this, she stated. Joining the EU is not just a wish; it’s necessary for Europe’s security, Metsola emphasized.
She also talked about Ukraine. Metsola said the EU must support Ukraine more. This includes putting more sanctions on Russia’s leader Vladimir Putin and his allies. The EU should also give financial, humanitarian, and military help to Ukraine. Only a strong Ukraine can negotiate from a good position, she added.
Metsola wants a path to real peace for Ukraine. Nothing about the country’s future should be decided without talking to Ukraine itself, she said.
