**Ukraine Returns Bodies of Fallen Soldiers**
Ukraine has returned the bodies of 503 fallen soldiers from Russia. The exact number of Ukrainian soldiers held by Russia is still unclear.
These return efforts are part of a bigger process. Since 2022, Ukraine has documented 177 cases of Russian forces executing Ukrainian prisoners of war. In 2024 alone, there have been 109 confirmed cases of such executions. This increase in crimes is a major concern.
**Where the Bodies Were Found**
The bodies were retrieved from different fronts:
* Donetsk front: 403 fallen defenders
* Luhansk front: 12 fallen defenders
* Zaporizhzhia front: 57 fallen defenders
* Morgues on Russian territory: 31 fallen defenders
**How the Return Was Made Possible**
The return of the bodies was made possible through a coordinated effort between several Ukrainian organizations, including:
* Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War
* General Staff of the Armed Forces
* Ministry of Internal Affairs
* Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights
* State Emergency Service of Ukraine
**What’s Next**
Efforts are underway to identify the fallen defenders. The International Committee of the Red Cross provided assistance in this process.
