US Sanctions on Georgian Law Enforcement Officials
The US has imposed sanctions on some high-ranking officials in Georgia. This decision has been strongly criticized by Shalva Papuashvili, a government official.
Papuashvili said that the sanctions will not harm the people of Georgia. He stated that the country and its society are moving forward, just like before. He also pointed out that Georgian law enforcement agencies have received praise for their efforts in fighting terrorism.
The US has added two officials to the SDN list: Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri and Mirza Kezevadze, the Deputy Director of the Special Assignments Department. This means they will face restrictions on their travel and business activities.
Papuashvili called the sanctions an unjust act that reflects a misjudgment by the US administration. He said that these actions will damage Georgian-American relations but not harm Georgia’s progress or the spirit of its people.
