**Latvia Bans 13 Georgian Citizens from Entering the Country**
On December 20, Latvia announced that it had added 13 Georgian citizens to its “persona non grata” list. This means they are not allowed to enter the country.
The Latvian Foreign Minister, Baiba Braze, made the announcement. She said the decision was made under a law that allows for people to be banned from entering Latvia for an indefinite period of time.
**Restrictions Imposed on Georgian Officials**
This is not the first time Latvia has imposed restrictions on Georgian officials. In December 2024, the country, along with Estonia and Lithuania, banned Bidzina Ivanishvili, a key figure in Georgia’s ruling party, and several other senior officials from entering their countries.
**Other Countries Imposing Sanctions**
Estonia also announced additional sanctions against 14 Georgian officials on December 16. The list includes the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, and Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze. Lithuania previously sanctioned 17 Georgian politicians, including senior officials and judges.
**International Pressure**
The EU is scheduled to discuss Union-wide sanctions against Georgian Dream officials at a meeting on December 16. Other countries are also imposing or considering sanctions on individuals undermining democracy and human rights in Georgia.
