**Russian Troops Face Discipline Crisis**
A team from Russia‘s Defense Ministry has been sent to investigate the 1196th Motorized Rifle Regiment. The move comes after reports of soldiers committing suicide and sabotaging watercraft.
The regiment is based in a part of Ukraine called Kherson Oblast, which is currently occupied by Russian forces. A group called Atesh, made up of Ukrainian–Crimean Tatars, claims to have a network of saboteurs inside the Russian military.
According to Atesh, their agents within the Russian army have confirmed that the Defense Ministry commission has arrived at the regiment in Kherson Oblast. This visit is linked to rising problems such as sabotage against watercraft and suicides among soldiers.
**Russian Plans Threatened**
These incidents are causing discipline problems and affecting the regiment’s ability to fight. The Russian military leadership is worried that these issues could stop their plans for an attack on the other side of the Dnipro River in Ukraine’s Kherson Oblast.
In December, Ukrainian authorities said that Russian soldiers tried to launch a surprise attack by boat but failed. They also fired over 1,000 shells at the city, killing two civilians and damaging many buildings.
**Evacuation Advised**
Kherson Governor Oleksandr Prokudin is advising residents not to panic and to consider leaving their homes if possible.
