Greece’s Prime Minister Attends North-South Summit in Finland
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis recently attended the North-South Summit in Finnish Lapland. He used this opportunity to reaffirm Greece’s support for Ukraine.
Since 2022, Greece has sent a significant amount of military aid to Ukraine, including artillery shells, missiles, and armored vehicles. These supplies are meant to help Ukraine defend itself against Russia.
When asked about his message to Russia and its leader, Vladimir Putin, Mitsotakis said that the message is clear: “We will continue to stand by Ukraine and support it unequivocally.” He also emphasized the importance of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. According to Mitsotakis, these talks should happen from a position of strength, not weakness.
The Greek Prime Minister discussed other important topics at the summit, including security challenges and European Union defense. With tensions rising, he highlighted the need for the EU to strengthen its collective defense and allocate more resources for this purpose.
Mitsotakis has previously shown his commitment to supporting Ukraine. In March 2024, he visited the Ukrainian port city of Odesa, where Russia launched a missile attack during their meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Despite this danger, the meeting continued as planned.
