**UN Reports Sharp Rise in Civilian Casualties in Ukraine**
The United Nations has documented a significant increase in civilian casualties in Ukraine due to Russia‘s use of strategic weapons.
Since 2022, fighting in Ukraine has gotten worse. This has created great humanitarian needs for the people living there.
Russia continues to attack residential areas and civilian buildings with missiles and drones every day. Since October 2022, they have been targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure on purpose. The goal is to make it hard for civilians to live, especially during winter months.
The UN’s Under-Secretary-General of Disarmament Affairs, Izumi Nakamitsu, spoke about the situation at a recent briefing. She said that since last fall, the number of civilian deaths and injuries has been too high. Russia has also targeted Ukraine’s energy infrastructure on purpose, causing many problems for civilians.
