Threats Made Against President

The , Irakli Kobakhidze, made threats against the ‘s president, Salome . During a special briefing on December 22, he said that she will have to leave office by December .

Kobakhidze warned President Zurabishvili not to try and stay power beyond the deadline. He said that if she does, she could face imprisonment. “Let us see where she continues to live – beyond the bars or behind the bars,” he stated.

The Prime Minister also accused President Zurabishvili of planning to barricade herself inside the presidential residence. He said this would be a crime and could result in a long prison sentence for her and anyone who might be with her.

Kobakhidze also spoke about the ‘s call for new elections. He said that there are no legal grounds for repeat elections, as the Central has validated the results of the previous election. The has ruled on an appeal by President Zurabishvili, and Kobakhidze said this is the end of the matter.

The Prime Minister warned President Zurabishvili not to call for new elections, saying that this would be a criminal offense. He said she should think carefully about her next move and hope that someone smart advises her.
