**Italy’s PM Warns of Russia’s Far-Reaching Threat**
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has described Russia as a country that poses significant and far-reaching threats to the European Union. She made this statement during her visit to Finland, where she met with other EU leaders.
**Security Concerns in Europe**
Meloni expressed concern about Russia’s conduct and its impact on EU security. She believes that Moscow will continue to be a threat even after the war in Ukraine ends. Meloni warned that Europe needs to be prepared for challenges such as illegal immigration, which Russia uses to destabilize the union.
**Italy’s Immigration Problem**
Italy is one of the EU countries most affected by illegal boat crossings. Meloni said that tackling this issue solely as a matter of solidarity was a mistake. She argued that the result has been an inability to protect borders, and she wants to defend Italy’s external borders against Russia and criminal organizations.
**EU Must Reassess Immigration Approach**
Meloni emphasized that the EU needs to reassess its approach to addressing immigration issues. She suggested that the current burden-sharing approach may not be effective in dealing with the problem.
**Finnish PM Shares Concerns**
Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo echoed Meloni’s concerns, saying that securing Finland’s 1,340-kilometer border with Russia is an “existential” matter for his country. He emphasized that this issue requires cooperation and action from other EU members and NATO allies.
