**OSCE Concerned About Human Rights in Georgia**
The OSCE has expressed concern about human rights developments in Georgia. 38 participating states have used the Vienna Mechanism to urge Georgia to engage in a constructive dialogue.
**Peaceful Protests and Police Response**
Hundreds of people have been detained and ill-treated by police during peaceful protests in Georgia. Dozens of cases of interference and violence against journalists and media actors have also been reported.
**Concerns and Requests**
The OSCE member states are concerned about the following issues:
* The right to freedom of peaceful assembly is being violated.
* Individuals are being arbitrarily detained or arrested, including those not participating in protests.
* Police are acting without clear identification as required by Georgian law.
* Allegations of torture and cruel treatment are being investigated.
**Investigations Required**
The OSCE member states have requested that Georgia provide concrete responses to these concerns within 10 days. They want to know what steps have been taken to investigate the following:
* Violations of the right to freedom of peaceful assembly
* Arbitrary arrests and detentions
* Allegations of torture and cruel treatment
* Violence against peaceful protestors, journalists, and bystanders
**International Obligations**
The OSCE member states are invoking the Vienna Mechanism, which requires Georgia to respect its human dimension commitments. They are also taking into account Georgia’s obligations under international law.
