**Protest Participants Arrested Under Criminal Law**
In Georgia, over 30 people have been arrested for participating in protests. These arrests happened just a few weeks ago, and the ages of those arrested range from 19 to adults.
**Most Severe Detention Measure Applied**
The court has put every protester who was arrested under the most severe detention measure – imprisonment. This means that all protesters will be kept in jail until their cases are settled.
**Students, Doctors, and Journalists Among Detainees**
Among those arrested are up to 10 students, as well as doctors, journalists, actors, and members of political parties. Only two people, Aleko Elisashvili and a minor, were released on bail after the prosecution asked for it.
**No Police Officers Arrested Despite Violence**
Despite hundreds of protesters and journalists being subjected to violence, inhuman treatment, and torture by law enforcement officers, none of these officers have been arrested or punished. It’s also notable that members of an informal violent group who used violence against protest participants were released on bail.
**Protest Participants Point Out Violations**
The lawyers for the protesters point out several violations during the investigative process. These include illegal searches of personal and residential properties, inappropriate treatment by the police during and after detention, severe psychological pressure, and physical abuse.
**Criminal Articles Used to Prosecute Protesters**
The protesters are being prosecuted under various articles of the Criminal Code, including participation in group violence, damage to property, attack on police officers, preparation for an explosion, persecution, and illegal possession of large quantities narcotics. These articles carry prison sentences ranging from 4 to 6 years to life imprisonment.
