**Russia Pledges Retaliation After Ukrainian Drone Attack**
Russian President Vladimir Putin has threatened to bring more destruction to Kyiv after Ukrainian drones struck the city of Kazan in the Tatarstan region.
The attack on December 21 saw at least seven explosions target residential areas and an industrial facility. Some of the blasts damaged a luxury building and the Kazan Powder Plant, which produces explosives and missile propellants for the Russian military.
Ukrainian officials say the plant is essential for supplying munitions to Russia’s military. Local residents reported hearing loud blasts from the plant throughout the day.
Russia has intensified its drone attacks on Ukraine in recent months, using Iranian-made Shaheds to strike critical infrastructure and urban areas. However, Ukraine has also ramped up its drone capabilities, launching long-range strikes deep into Russian territory.
Despite Putin’s threats, Ukrainian officials say Russia lacks the capacity for significant escalation. Serhii Zgurets from Defense Express said: “There’s no sense in trying to intimidate us anymore. Russia has exhausted all its arsenals except for nuclear weapons.”
Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence agency reported that a warehouse containing components for Iranian-designed attack drones was destroyed at Russia’s Alabuga Special Economic Zone in Tatarstan.
