The poll, which was conducted between December 2 and 17 among 2,000 respondents living in Ukraine-controlled territories, found that around half of those surveyed would support the development of nuclear weapons even at the price of losing Western aid and coming under sanctions.

Despite these findings, Kyiv has reaffirmed its commitment to the nuclear -proliferation policy. The government has stated that it has no plans to build nuclear weapons and is instead seeking membership as a viable security guarantee.

The executive director of the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, Hrushetskyi, has spoken out about the poll’s findings. He noted that Ukrainians are increasingly concerned about their country’s security and are looking for effective guarantees to protect them from .

“It’s about our democracy, it’s about influencing our public opinion, it’s about what happens in Africa, it’s about raw materials, it’s about the instrumentalization of migration,” Italian said.
