**Guildford Charity Struggles to Find Host Families for Ukrainians**
A charity in Guildford, Surrey is facing a big challenge. It’s called GUkraine and helps people from Ukraine find homes in the area. Since the war started in their country, about 2,500 people have been helped by the charity.
But now, there are even more people who need somewhere to live than ever before. Some of them have been living in the UK for three Christmases already.
**Fewer People Coming Forward**
Tina Moon, one of the co-founders of GUkraine, said that at first many people were willing to host Ukrainians. But as time went by, fewer people came forward. She’s very sad about this and says it’s “just impossible” to find enough host families.
**Personal Stories of Ukrainian Refugees**
One young woman named Sonya Ohii moved to Guildford with her family when she was 15. Now she’s studying film at university and feels proud of herself for achieving this in a new country. She misses her friends and family back in Ukraine, who have been affected by the war.
Sonya talks to her dad every day, as he is still in Ukraine because men aren’t allowed to leave. She worries about him constantly but knows there’s nothing she can do except talk to him.
Another woman, Larysa Smirnova, also moved to Guildford with her four-year-old son. She credits her host for helping her get settled and starting her own business.
**Charity’s Ongoing Work**
Despite the challenges, the charity is still working hard to help people from Ukraine. They provide homes in Guildford and Waverley, as well as goods and support with navigating local and national government.
The co-founder, Tina Moon, is very thankful for the help they’ve received from local communities and churches.
