Latvia Donates Cars to Ukraine

In February , passed a law that allowed the country to donate vehicles confiscated from drunk drivers to Ukraine. This law was possible by changes to the Law on for Civilian Population.

The total value of these donated cars is estimated at €2.25 million. According to the (VID), 612 vehicles have been transferred to Ukraine since then.

This support initiative became possible after Latvia’s parliament, Saeima, passed unanimous amendments to the law in February 2023. The government has made several to transfer batches of confiscated vehicles to Ukraine.

The current total of 612 transferred vehicles represents all such transfers to date. Former Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš previously noted that “100% of Latvian supports Ukraine – even those who drive drunk.”
