Russia’s Groups Trying to Gain Foothold in Oblast

Russian sabotage groups are trying to gain a foothold in . Oleksandr Prokudin said this on national television on 26.

Prokudin’s statement comes as Russia is expected to launch a large-scale on the region. In early December, Russian troops attacked the southern region to try and get a grip on islands in the delta.

“We are seeing an increase in enemy activity,” Prokudin said. “We know where they can land, and our defense forces are ready to stop them.”

Attacks are not rare, and are trying to get a foothold on the western bank of the Dnipro regularly. However, none of these attempts have been successful.

Russian diversionary groups are trying to get a foothold on islands near Kherson or on the western bank of the river every day. Prokudin said that all the diversionists were eliminated.

The Russian military has been trying to advance on Kozatsky Island, Velykyi Potemkin Island, and Zabych Island in recent weeks. These islands are located west of the Dnipro River.

Kherson and other regional settlements have been subjected to near-daily Russian strikes since Ukraine liberated the area in November . Russian troops were pushed to the of the river at that time.

Russian troops have intensified ground attacks in several areas along the front line over the past few days, but failed to break through Ukraine’s defense lines.
