Weather hampers Ukrainian drones, so Russia switches to mechanized attacks near Kupiansk

Russian forces are taking advantage of bad weather to attacks with tanks and other vehicles. This is making it hard for operators to see what’s happening the ground.

According to a army officer, Russian have been using stolen local boats to cross the Oskil River undetected. They are trying to gain control over the river and the surrounding area of Kupiansk city in eastern Ukraine.

On November 24th, Russian forces briefly captured some near Kupiansk but were driven back by Ukrainian defenders. On 23rd, a large-scale attack on failed, with Russian forces suffering heavy losses.

The bad weather has made it harder for Ukrainian drones to operate and has resulted in the loss of several unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The Ukrainian army officer said that previously Russian attacks were mostly carried out by infantry groups without using equipment. But now they are taking advantage of the weather to launch mechanized attacks, which is a more serious threat.

The area around Kupiansk remains a highly contested region with both sides trying to gain control. Ukrainian forces have been able to repel many of these attacks but the situation remains fragile and unpredictable.
