**Ukraine Responds to Slovak PM’s Power Threat**
The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reacted strongly to a threat from Slovakia‘s Prime Minister Robert Fico. Fico said that he might cut off emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine.
But the Ministry pointed out that Ukraine pays Slovakia a lot of money for this power. It reminded Fico that Ukraine is not getting charity, but rather something it has paid for.
**Slovakia and Russia: A Long History**
Ukraine’s neighbors have traditionally been dependent on Russian gas, which passes through Ukraine to reach Europe. But now, Ukraine plans to stop carrying Russian gas from 2025. Slovakia remains the last big EU country that still uses this route.
**Ministry Hits Back at Fico’s Threats**
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called Fico’s threats “senseless”. It said that by making these threats, Fico is actually supporting Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Ministry also claimed that Fico wants to make Europe dependent on Russia again.
“This is the only way to maintain European countries’ dependence on Russia,” the Ministry wrote.
**A Coordinated Effort?**
The Ministry suggested that Fico’s statements show he is working with Putin. It said that by excluding other energy sources, Fico is helping to keep Europeans reliant on Russian power.
