**Georgian Officials Reassure EU Membership Goals Amid Crisis**
Despite the country’s growing international isolation, Georgian Dream (GD) officials have reaffirmed their commitment to EU membership. President Mikheil Kavelashvili and Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze attended a conference for Georgian ambassadors, where they claimed that Georgia is successfully moving towards EU integration.
**Promises of EU Membership**
In his address, President Kavelashvili stated that more than 90% of the EU-Georgia Association Agreement will be implemented by 2028. He also promised that Georgia will start negotiations with the EU “at any time”. The president expressed optimism about resolving misunderstandings with the US and implementing the Strategic Charter between the two countries.
**Ignoring Russia**
Interestingly, neither President Kavelashvili nor Prime Minister Kobakhidze mentioned Russia in the context of occupied regions like Abkhazia and South Ossetia. They emphasized that only peaceful means will lead to de-occupation.
**Focus on EU Integration**
Prime Minister Kobakhidze described EU integration as “the most important priority” for Georgia. He claimed that the country is progressing towards EU integration, citing last year’s grant of EU candidate status. The prime minister pledged to implement over 90% of the Association Agreement and DCFTA by 2028.
**Economic Growth**
Kobakhidze also highlighted Georgia’s “rapid economic growth”, claiming it’s a leader in democratic and economic reforms in the region. He assured that the government will continue to focus on accelerating economic growth, which he sees as crucial for EU accession.
