Giorgi Gakharia, the leader of the For Georgia party, has announced that his party will not be supporting either the Georgian Dream or the United National Movement in the upcoming second round of elections. He made this statement during a briefing, stating that his party’s supporters are against the “radical forces and polarization” that these two parties represent.
According to Gakharia, the citizens who voted for his party want to put an end to the “radicalization and concentration of power” in the country. He believes that his party’s supporters are capable of making an “independent decision” without being told to support either the GD or UNM.
“Our electorate is sensible and by supporting us, they have shown that they are against radicalization and support a balanced distribution of power. We cannot and will not insult them by telling them to support a specific party. Their support for us means that they reject the two radical forces that are trying to take the country back to the past,” Gakharia stated.
The second round of local elections will take place on October 30, as the October 2 elections did not result in a clear winner for mayor in 20 cities across Georgia. While most opposition parties are expected to support the UNM in the second round, For Georgia and the Alliance of Patriots have chosen to remain neutral.
In conclusion, Gakharia and his party are taking a stance against the current government and the main opposition party, emphasizing the need for a more balanced distribution of power in the country.
