Mikheil Sarjveladze says that no one has evidence that the Ministry of Internal Affairs representatives used non-standard methods during the protests. Intoxication, tears, and other symptoms were all natural accompanying processes.  

Police Use of Tear Gas and Pepper Spray in Georgia is Lawful, Says Minister.

The police used tear gas canisters and pepper spray to break up protesters during demonstrations. Mikheil Sarjveladze, the Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labor, Health, and Social Protection, said that they acted within the law.

Sarjveladze said there is no evidence that the police used anything against the rules. “No one has any proof that the police used non-standard means,” he said. He added that discussing this further is unnecessary because it’s just speculation.

According to Sarjveladze, using tear gas and pepper spray to break up protests is allowed by law. He mentioned international standards and conventions, including those of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

The symptoms from tear gas, such as feeling drunk or crying, are normal reactions, said the Minister.
