Georgian Elections: Urge New Vote

The Foreign Ministers of France, Germany, and have released a joint statement. They are concerned about the situation Georgia after the ‘s parliamentary elections on 26.

The ministers say that the OSCE/ODIHR report confirms their worries about the fairness of the process. There were many irregularities and investigations into allegations were not done properly.

The Foreign Ministers that the elections did not meet the standards expected of a country wanting to join the EU. They condemn the violence against , media, and leaders.

They also threaten to cut ties with Georgia and reduce assistance if things don’t change.

The ministers say they will implement an EU decision to end visa- for Georgian diplomats. They are also considering more measures.
