The Ukrainian Navy helped over 9,000 civilian vessels pass through its sea corridor in 2024. This was announced by Navy Oleksii Neizhpapa on January 3.

According to Neizhpapa, the corridor has become vital trade route ‘s and global food security. In 2024, it enabled the of over 74 million tons of cargo, including agricultural products.

The Ukrainian Navy worked hard to ensure safe navigation despite threats from attacks and drifting mines. Commander Neizhpapa credited the Navy’s efforts in destroying mines and escorting cargo ships for maintaining safety.

In fact, no sea mine explosions occurred in ports last year thanks to the personnel and divers of the Ukrainian Navy.

Despite the challenges, Ukraine’s maritime trade route has been targeted by Russia. One such attack happened on September 12 when a cargo ship carrying Ukrainian wheat to was hit while sailing in Romania’s exclusive economic zone.
