**Ukrainian Navy Helps Thousands of Ships Safely Pass Through Its Sea Corridor in 2024**
The Ukrainian Navy helped over 9,000 civilian vessels pass through its sea corridor in 2024. This was announced by Navy Commander Oleksii Neizhpapa on January 3.
According to Neizhpapa, the corridor has become a vital trade route for Ukraine‘s economy and global food security. In 2024, it enabled the export of over 74 million tons of cargo, including agricultural products.
The Ukrainian Navy worked hard to ensure safe navigation despite threats from Russian attacks and drifting mines. Commander Neizhpapa credited the Navy’s efforts in destroying mines and escorting cargo ships for maintaining safety.
In fact, no sea mine explosions occurred in ports last year thanks to the personnel and divers of the Ukrainian Navy.
**Russia Targets Ukrainian Maritime Trade Route**
Despite the challenges, Ukraine’s maritime trade route has been targeted by Russia. One such attack happened on September 12 when a cargo ship carrying Ukrainian wheat to Egypt was hit while sailing in Romania’s exclusive economic zone.
The Ukrainian Navy continues its efforts to ensure safe navigation and uphold Ukraine’s position in the global maritime market.
