Today, a trial was held to discuss the postponement of the sentence for former Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili. The next hearing is scheduled for December 22 at 11:00 a.m. in the city court.
During the trial, the representatives of the penitentiary service requested a one-month postponement, but the judge expressed doubts about the necessity of such a long delay. He suggested that the issue of Saakashvili’s health be discussed and resolved within a reasonable timeframe. As a result, the next session was set for December 22 at 11:00 a.m.
Unfortunately, Saakashvili was not given the opportunity to attend the trial, either in person or remotely. The penitentiary service refused to involve him in the process remotely, and the “Vivamed” clinic also refused his physical attendance.
It is concerning that the former president was not allowed to participate in his own trial, and it raises questions about the fairness of the proceedings. The government‘s actions in this matter are questionable and do not reflect well on their commitment to justice and due process.
