**Serbia Protests: Students Demand Accountability for Train Station Tragedy**
A protest rally was held outside the courthouse in Novi Sad, Serbia on Wednesday. The protesters were demanding accountability for a tragedy that happened at the city’s main train station last November.
**Nationwide Silence and Protest**
On Wednesday, people across Serbia stood in silence for 15 minutes to honor the victims of the train station tragedy. This was done at exactly 11:52 am, which is the same time when the concrete awning collapsed, killing 15 people.
**Protesters Demand Fair Proceedings**
The protesters left bloody handprints and messages on the street outside the courthouse. They were demanding that the court and public prosecutor act independently and not be pressured by the executive branch. The protesters also want fair proceedings in all criminal cases related to the train station canopy.
**Upcoming Protests Planned**
The students announced several upcoming protests, including a gathering outside the Security-Information Agency (BIA) offices on January 11. They also plan to block the Mostar interchange in Belgrade on January 10. A major demonstration is scheduled for Sunday, January 12, outside the Constitutional Court.
**Call for Public Support**
The university students are calling on high school students, education workers, farmers and members of the general public to join their protests. They have received support from nearly 3,500 university professors and emphasize their independence from all political parties and organizations.
