**US Defense Secretary Says Russia Doesn’ Have All the Advantages**

Russia is not as strong as it seems its war against , according to outgoing US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin. He these comments just before a meeting of countries supporting Ukraine’s defense.

Austin said that while Russia has some advantages, it doesn’t have complete control over the situation. If Russia gets what it wants, it will pay a price in the future.

**Ukraine’s Strengths and Russia’s Challenges**

The US is pushing for peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. However, this process may lead to Ukraine making concessions, including losing land. Russia currently controls around % of Ukrainian territory.

President Volodymyr has said that some areas, like Crimea, will have to be liberated through diplomatic means. Even if Russia gains territory in a negotiated agreement, Austin said it will cost them resources to hold onto it.

**Russia’s Dependence on Other Countries**

Austin also pointed out that Russia relies on other countries, such as Iran and North Korea, for help. Up to 12,000 North Korean soldiers have been sent to fight alongside against Ukrainian forces.

The US is trying to support Ukraine with and by strengthening its alliances. The upcoming meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group will focus on supporting Ukraine’s defense capabilities through 2027.

**Austin Defends US Strategy**

Ahead of his final meeting as Defense Secretary, Austin defended President Joe ‘s strategy on Ukraine. He said it has helped Ukraine survive and defend its territory. Austin also noted that Russia has suffered heavy losses in the war.
