**Lithuania Boosts Security Around Power Grid**
Lithuania is taking steps to increase security around its power grid, particularly in preparation for next month’s disconnection from the Russian energy system. The country has announced plans to enhance security measures with Poland.
**Police to Protect Power Link**
The Lithuanian government has directed police forces to safeguard the electricity link with Warsaw, known as the LitPol Link. This decision comes amid concerns about potential sabotage following recent incidents in the Baltic Sea.
**Security Concerns**
Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas said that the government evaluates every possible version of sabotage, from cybersecurity to physical actions. To address these concerns, the Public Security Service will replace private security services that have been protecting critical objects like the LitPol converter and transformer station near Alytus in southern Lithuania.
**Baltic Sea Risks**
Giedrimas Jeglinskas, Chairman of the Parliament’s Committee on National Security and Defence, highlighted the risks in the Baltic Sea. He noted that infrastructure damage and sabotage attempts have reportedly increased, with Russia allegedly using a “shadow fleet” to carry out these acts.
**Energy Reserves**
Lithuania’s officials assured the public that the country has sufficient energy reserves and contingency plans to prevent any power shortages following the decoupling from the Russian grid. The Baltic states plan to disconnect from the Russian energy grid on February 8, after which they aim to independently operate their national grids.
