**Low Inflation Rate in Georgia**
Georgia’s annual inflation rate stayed low at 1.9% in December 2024, according to a report by the National Statistics Office (Geostat) on January 3. On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased by 0.7%.
**Price Changes Behind Low Inflation Rate**
The low annual inflation rate was mainly due to decreases in some areas. These included housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (-3.2%), communication (-12.7%), and miscellaneous goods and services (6.4%) actually increased.
**Monthly Price Hikes Led by Health and Food**
The monthly price hike was driven by increases in health (1.4%), food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.3%), and clothing and footwear (0.2% actually decreased).
**Food Prices Up, Fruit Prices Down**
Prices for some subgroups of food increased in December 2024. These included vegetables (5.3%), oils and fats (3.0%), milk, cheese and eggs (2.4%), coffee, tea and cocoa (1.0%), meat (0.6%), and fish (0.5%). However, fruit and grapes prices decreased (-1.0%) along with mineral waters, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices (-0.5%).
