Ukraine Offers Defense Jobs to Abroad

The Ukrainian government is offering jobs at defense enterprises and exemptions from service to its citizens living abroad. This was announced by National Minister Oleksii Chernyshov January 8.

“We have a shortage of professionals, and Ukraine is ready to exempt most of them from military service,” Chernyshov said. To address this need, the government plans to set up centers to help Ukrainians living abroad find jobs in both Ukraine and their current countries of residence.

The centers will guide individuals toward career paths that can benefit Ukraine’s defense industry. Chernyshov expressed confidence that many Ukrainians would take advantage of these opportunities.

Poland and have suggested they may assist Ukraine in facilitating the return of fighting-aged men, but no concrete measures have been announced. Some countries like Germany and Estonia have extended temporary residency permits for Ukrainian refugees.

Ukraine lowered its mobilization age from to 25 last year, but has resisted calls from international to reduce it further to 18. The new initiatives reflect the government’s efforts to balance workforce needs in critical with requirements.
