This was said by Salome Zurabishvili, Georgia’s fifth president. She spoke at a meeting in the US. Zurabishvili thinks sanctions are working well and making the “autocratic, pro–Russian regime” weaker. She believes these sanctions should keep going.
The president said that these autocratic governments often rely on people with power and influence to help them stay in control. Sanctions are hurting these people and weakening the government. This is good, Zurabishvili said.
Zurabishvili thinks new elections are needed to solve Georgia’s crisis. She believes this is the only way to get out of the current situation. The president also mentioned that there have been protests in Georgia for 42 days now. They are big and involve people from all age groups and parts of society.
