**Biden Says Putin Failed to Achieve Strategic Objectives in Ukraine**
Russian President Vladimir Putin has not achieved any of his goals in Ukraine, US President Joe Biden said in a speech on January 13.
This comes as Russia‘s invasion of Ukraine nears its third year and just before new president Donald Trump is set to take office. Biden defended the US administration’s policies, saying they stopped Putin from succeeding.
“He thought he’d conquer Kyiv in days,” Biden said. “The truth is, since that war began I’m the only one that stood in the center of Kyiv, not him.”
Biden visited Ukraine in February 2023 and became the first US president to visit a war zone not controlled by US forces.
Putin failed to achieve his strategic objectives, including subjugating Ukraine, breaking NATO unity, and making large territorial gains. Biden praised the US for providing military aid to Ukraine and said that sanctions against Russia have weakened its economy.
**US Prepared Strong Ukraine Policy Foundation**
The US has prepared a strong foundation of policies to help Ukraine, which will be handed over to the incoming Trump administration. Biden urged Congress to continue sending aid to Ukraine despite Trump’s opposition.
“Putin has failed to achieve any of his strategic objectives,” Biden said. “We can’t walk away from Ukraine.”
