Drone Attack Hits Russian Plant in Kazan
A drone attack targeted the Kazanorgsintez plant in Kazan, Tatarstan Republic. The incident happened on January 14. Local Telegram channels reported that a fire broke out at the plant due to the drone wreckage.
The Vechernaya Kazan channel claimed that the strike hit a liquified gas storage area. This caused gas tanks to catch fire. Russian authorities confirmed that there was a fire in the city, but said it did not cause significant damage.
Tatarstan Republic head Rustam Minnikhanov reported on his Telegram channel that emergency services quickly put out the fire. He also said that there were no casualties or serious damage.
Videos shared across different channels showed a big fire at an industrial site. Witnesses reported hearing drones flying over the village of Osinovo, followed by an explosion near the plant.
Russia reported Ukrainian drone attacks in multiple regions overnight. An industrial facility was reportedly set on fire in Saratov Oblast.
Kazanorgsintez’s plant produces important chemicals like pyrolysis, polyethylene, and polycarbonate.
Ukraine has been targeting Russian plants critical for its war efforts against Ukraine. The country‘s target list includes factories related to the oil and chemical industry.
