News Agency Interpressnews has started a new project with the European organization Stars4media. The goal of this project is to create an international office in Brussels where journalists from Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, and Armenia can work on EU and NATO issues.
Journalists from these countries will be able to work under the supervision of experienced mentors. Beka Beriashvili, a correspondent for Interpressnews, is one of the first selected to take part in this project.
The goal of this project is to increase the number of permanent correspondents from Eastern Europe in Brussels by three times. This will help them report more on EU and NATO issues.
A conference was held on January 14 to officially launch the media project. The conference was attended by high officials from European structures, representatives of major media outlets in Brussels, and local non-governmental organizations.
European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos spoke at the conference. She highlighted the importance of fighting against disinformation and the role that journalists play in this fight. She said that journalists have the power to cut through noise and establish facts.
Founder of the project Christophe Leclercq also spoke at the conference. He emphasized the importance of the project in increasing coverage of EU and NATO issues in Eastern Europe. He noted that talented journalists want to become correspondents in Brussels, but need more coaching and support.
The program is funded by individual donations and philanthropic contributions, but could be part of an EU-funded program in the future.
