The Public Defender of Georgia wants the police to find out who attacked two important people.
Levan Ioseliani, the Public Defender, says it’s very important for the authorities to respond quickly to these attacks. He believes that if they don’t act fast, other politicians and journalists might be targeted.
Giorgi Gakharia was attacked at a hotel in Batumi last night. He is the leader of the “Gakharia – For Georgia” group. He got hurt badly but has since been discharged from hospital. Doctors say he broke his nose and hit his head.
There was also a confrontation at the same hotel between Zviad Qoridze, a representative of the non-governmental sector, and Dimitri Samkharadze, a representative of the “Georgian Dream” party. Qoridze said that Samkharadze and his friends started arguing with him.
The Public Defender wants the police to do their job properly. He says they should get all the video recordings, question witnesses, and take other necessary steps to find out what happened.
