**Serbian Parliament Backs President Vucic’s Referendum**
The Speaker of Serbia’s Parliament, Ana Brnabic, said on Wednesday that the ruling party has collected over 100 signatures in support of a referendum on President Aleksandar Vucic‘s presidency.
The opposition parties need to gather 67 signatures to initiate the referendum. The ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) was able to collect 111 out of 113 signatures from its MPs, said SNS chief MP Milenko Jovanov.
**Referring to a recent poll**, President Vucic had offered the advisory referendum as an opportunity for the opposition to show their support or lack thereof. He called on the opposition to gather the required 67 signatures to initiate the procedure for the vote.
Brnabic warned the opposition that if they do not submit the necessary signatures, it will only create more tension and be seen as a way to destabilize Serbia. She also said that the referendum is an opportunity for the opposition to try and remove Vucic from his position as head of state, but added that they “won’t get out of this easily”.
