**UK and Ukraine Sign Landmark Partnership**
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has arrived in Kyiv to sign a “100 Year Partnership” treaty with Ukraine. This agreement covers several areas, including defense, energy, and trade.
The visit is Starmer’s second to the Ukrainian capital and his first since becoming prime minister in July 2024. The treaty aims to strengthen maritime military cooperation between the two countries and improve security in the Baltic Sea, Black Sea, and Azov Sea.
**Key Areas of Agreement**
The agreement has nine key pillars:
* Maritime military cooperation
* Scientific, educational, and technological partnerships in healthcare, agriculture, space, and drones
* A new Grain Verification Scheme to track grain looted by Russia
* Energy sector cooperation, critical minerals strategy, and green steel production
**Supporting Ukraine’s Security**
The “100 Year Partnership” is seen as a major step in supporting Ukraine’s long-term security. The UK government statement says it will ensure that Ukraine is never again vulnerable to Russian brutality.
Starmer said the partnership would bring together technology development, scientific advances, and cultural exchanges for generations to come.
**Peacekeeping Force Discussions**
The visit comes as the UK discusses deploying an international peacekeeping force to Ukraine ahead of potential peace negotiations. Starmer’s visit is expected to focus on this topic and new military and economic support for Ukraine.
