Georgian Embassy Denies MPs’ Detention Reports
The Georgian Embassy in the UAE has stated that reports of MPs Irakli Zarkua and Viktor Sanikidze being held in a detention center for a month are false. The embassy made this statement to InterPressNews, a news agency.
Law Enforcement Agencies Investigating Incident
The embassy commented on a physical confrontation that occurred between Georgian Dream MPs and citizen Lasha Gabitashvili in Abu Dhabi. Law enforcement agencies are investigating the incident, which involves the persons involved.
Physical Confrontation in Abu Dhabi
A few days ago, Georgian Dream MPs Irakli Zarkua and Viktor Sanikidze physically confronted citizen Lasha Gabitashvili in a hotel dining room. Video footage of the incident shows that Zarkua threw food at Gabitashvili during dinner and then physically confronted him. MP Gela Samkharauli was also present at the scene.
Incident Was Over Verbal Insults
The confrontation occurred after Gabitashvili called Zarkua and Sanikidze “Russian slaves” in a verbal insult. The parties verbally insulted each other the day before.
MPs Released Video Messages
Later, MPs Irakli Zarkua and Viktor Sanikidze released video messages. In one of them, Zarkua said that they should be proud to respond to insults against their family and relatives. However, the embassy denies reports of them being held in a detention center for a month.
