During a video conference today, Irakli Garibashvili, the Prime Minister of Georgia, and Teresa Czerwińska, the Vice President of the European Investment Bank (EIB), discussed a 10-Year Plan of National Development and a Nationwide Renovation Program. The PM shared detailed information about these plans and emphasized the importance of support from partners in the process.
The EIB will be involved in the development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and will help implement relevant programs. The discussion also touched upon the economic challenges faced by Georgia due to the global pandemic and the areas of cooperation between Georgia and the EIB.
Garibashvili expressed gratitude to the EIB for their support in the fight against the pandemic, which has allowed the government to effectively respond to healthcare challenges and implement a plan for economic recovery. He also highlighted the significance of investment projects funded by the EIB for the country’s advancement, especially in the post-pandemic reality.
The PM stressed that continued cooperation between Georgia and the EIB is crucial not only for large projects but also for policies, as the country prepares to apply for EU membership in 2024. He reaffirmed that integration into the EU is a firm decision made by the government and people of Georgia.
So far, the EIB has invested almost 2 billion Euros in the private and public sectors of Georgia, making the country a key beneficiary of the EIB in the eastern neighborhood of the EU. The EIB’s decision to increase operations in the private sector was praised at the meeting, as economic growth, employment, and innovation are mainly driven by the private sector.
The Prime Minister also welcomed the EIB’s efforts to support the development of small businesses through EU initiatives, which will promote financial engagement and long-term economic growth.
In conclusion, the meeting between the PM and the EIB Vice President highlighted the importance of cooperation between Georgia and the EIB for the country’s development and emphasized the government’s commitment to EU integration.
