**Russia’s Losses in Ukraine**
Since February 24, 2022, Russia has lost over 814,000 troops in Ukraine. This is according to a report from the General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces on January 16.
The report also states that Russia has lost many vehicles and equipment. These include:

* 20,368 armored fighting vehicles
* 34,132 vehicles and fuel tanks
* 22,015 artillery systems
* 1,262 multiple launch rocket systems
* 1,046 air defense systems
* 369 airplanes
* 331 helicopters
* 22,503 drones
* 28 ships and boats
* One submarine
**World Leaders Respond**
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer arrived in Kyiv on January 16. He is set to sign a “100 Year Partnership” treaty with Ukraine.
Some advisors to US President-elect Donald Trump believe it will take several months to reach a deal to end the Russia-Ukraine war.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine needs strong security guarantees, including continued weapons shipments and NATO accession. He also stated that a large military is necessary for protection.
**Other Developments**
Russian forces have occupied the largest nuclear station in Europe since March 2022. They are using the site in ways that increase the risk of a nuclear disaster.
Ukraine’s Azov Brigade captured 23 Russian soldiers during combat operations in Donetsk Oblast.
An oil depot in Russia caught fire after multiple drone strikes.
Russia is reportedly planning to demand that Ukraine cut ties with NATO and become a neutral state.
